To the Editor: Regarding your Journeys article“Villagers in India Open Their Homes”(March 8): One doesn’t have to make a five-hour drive to experience village life in India. On two extensive trips to India, I found myself in villages just 30 minutes outside major cities.

To the Editor: Regarding“36 Hours: Shanghai”by Aric Chen (March 15): I have had the privilege of visiting this city several times since the mid-1980s. Since Mr. Chen allocates only two and a half hours to museum viewing, I recommend spending the time in the Shanghai Museum, with its important ancient Chinese artifacts that include an exceptional collection of bronzes. In fact, the museum is in the shape of an ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessel called a ding.
